STAR programme (Sustaining Tenancies At Risk) is a project funded by the Victorian Government and the Federal Government through the Victorian Homelessness Action Plan (VHAP) to reduce and prevent homelessness for people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. The STAR programme focuses on early intervention and prevention; to keep people in their private rental property. We work with people when they experience tenancy difficulties and make sure they can stay in their home. Working closely with real estate agents, and other agencies, we are able to negotiate and provide support, and use brokerage to help sustain tenancies. Where they aren’t sustainable, we can work with the consumer to find alternative housing that they can sustain on their own. Our support lasts up to six months, and we are able to provide or refer on for financial counselling, assistance at VCAT, to Centrelink, and to other support agencies depending on individual circumstances.
